Caramel Apple Upside Down Cake
Whoa…. that is a long name. Every holiday I try to make a dessert for my family, this time I was in a mood to create an apple cake. It is tough for me to sit down and remember what ingredients that I actually used, because I cook without measuring. Without a doubt this is one of the most unique cakes that I’ve ever baked. I baked the whole thing in a springform pan , so get the pan ready by spraying PAM inside the whole thing and cover the bottom of the pan with foil to protect your oven from any spills. Then grab a skillet and melt some 1/4 cup of butter, once melted add 3/4 cup of brown sugar and bring it to a boil. Once the mixture is boiling, put it cinnamon. Pour the mixture into your springform pan and spread it evenly on the bottom. Now my favorite part… Peel granny smith green apples and layer on top of the mixture & get creative!! I added pecans on top, but that is optional.. you can also substitute for walnuts. Now add your typical yellow cake mixture, you can follow my recipe here. Put the complete mixture in the oven for 350 degrees for about 40-45 min, check in regularly on the cake to avoid an over cooked cake…. no one wants a dry cake. When the timer goes off and cake is ready to be pulled out of the oven, let it cool for about one hour. When the cake is cooled, flip the cake over on a plate/cake stand & release the springform. One last important step is to add melted caramel on top of the cake as the last layer. Now you have it… delicious & calorie free
Apples + Caramel + Pecans = a heavily combination for a dessert. What shall I try to make next? hmm..
